About Scribe Publishing
Scribe Publishing was founded in southeast Michigan in 2011 as a traditional, royalty-paying small press. For twelve years it published a short, carefully chosen list: regional travel guides, cookbooks, young adult fiction and literary suspense, distributed nationally and reviewed in the trade press.
The press years, 2011 to 2023
The list was never large, and that was the point. Roughly a dozen titles were published in the first eight years, and about half of them picked up national or regional awards: Midwest Book Awards, Independent Publisher (IPPY) medals, Foreword INDIES recognition and an IBPA Benjamin Franklin honour for cover design. The best-known series was a set of "under the radar" travel guides to Michigan's overlooked towns, trails and diners, a companion to a long-running public television programme. Alongside those sat plant-based cookbooks, a Detroit-legend folklore series for younger readers, and a young adult fantasy quartet drawing on Great Lakes mythology.
The press was a member of the Independent Book Publishers Association and the Midwest Independent Publishers Association, ran an annual writers' contest for several years, and offered consulting for authors weighing traditional against self-publishing. A small team worked out of Royal Oak and later Pontiac, Michigan.
What changed in 2024
In 2024 the print catalogue and its author relationships moved to a dedicated bookselling address, where the titles remain in print. This domain, the publisher's home for more than a decade, was retained for what the team had always done between book launches: writing guides.
The Michigan travel books taught us something about readers. Detroit to Windsor is a bridge, not a border, and a large share of our travel readership was Canadian. When we surveyed those readers in 2025 about what they wanted covered next, two answers dominated: where to go, and what to do on a winter evening. The second answer, more often than we expected, meant online casinos. So in 2026 we opened a leisure desk and began reviewing Canada's online casino scene with the same approach we used for roadside diners: visit, test, write it down plainly.
The Scribe Guides desk
Our gaming guides are written and fact-checked by a small editorial team based around the Great Lakes, including writers in Ontario and British Columbia who play as regular customers with their own money. We do not operate a casino, we do not take wagers, and our reviews are not written or approved by the operators we cover. Where we link to a casino we say so, and the link never changes the verdict. See the editorial policy for how a review is produced and when it is updated.
What we cover
- Canadian online casinos, starting with two of the longest-running brands available to Canadians: Luxury Casino and Yukon Gold Casino.
- Slot releases worth a Canadian player's attention, such as the November 2026 arrival of Gold Blitz Infinite.
- Reading, still: the journal keeps the old habit of recommending books, including a Klondike reading list.
